The realm of fairy-story is wide and deep and high and filled with many things: all manner of beasts and birds are found there; shoreless seas and stars uncounted; beauty that is an enchantment, and an ever-present peril; both joy and sorrow as sharp as swords. In that realm a man may, perhaps, count himself fortunate to have wandered, but its very richness and strangeness tie the tongue of a traveller who would report them.
And while he is there it is dangerous for him to ask too many questions, lest the gates should be shut and the keys be lost. Faerie, also known as Fairyland or Elfland, is a very specific version of Magical Land.
Though Faerie is almost always a Magical Land, not all Magical Lands are examples of the Land Of Faerie. This jam packed event features lots of children’s nature learning activities and workshops alongside more traditional entertainment such as live music, storytelling, walkabout characters, family shows and food and craft stalls. Children over three years old can take part in unique magical workshops run by The Fairyland Trust charity which take place in beautifully decorated tents, and where children can learn some fairy folklore and lots about nature.
Fairyland
The Fairy Fair runs on both Sunday 28th and Monday 29th from 10.30 am to 5.30pm. The format is the same for both days so if there is a bookable workshop that your child really wanted to do that is sold out, do try the other day in case there is more availability there.
There will also be other activities on the day that children can drop into once a space becomes available. These are: Fairy Fair Crowns (£3/child), Bumbling Bees, Pixie Post ( £2/ child) and Fairy and Elf Houses ( free). Plus, the brave can enter the Pirate Fete and play daft games with the Pirates such as Unlucky Dip and Splat the Ships Rat for £2 for a play- all- day wristband.
Families can also (free) have an audience with The Fairy Queen and the King in their beautiful hut.
Look around The Fairy Queens’ garden, picking up tips on gardening for wildlife from the attentive Wildflower Fairies and Fairy Gardeners. If you are feeling active you can take a spin around The Maypole, dance to The Foreign Locals, The Moonshiners and Penny Less, or sit down and laugh a lot at The Pirate Pantomime or listen to a story told by Mike and Callum.

Be entertained and enchanted by our beautiful Wildflower Fairies, Mr Bees, Big Bugs and Stripey the Caterpillar. Special guests this year include Sybil the Giant Snail from the Insect Circus and Rowanbank Stilts (all free). A Fairy Fair is not complete without a lot of dressing up and home made plastic free costumes are encouraged but not obligatory!
Families will have a chance to show off their outfits in a special Show each morning from 11am to 11.30 am.
